# How to Get Your CMR / CML Copy from ICICI Direct
ICICI Direct is an **NSDL** depository participant, and it is one of the minority of Indian brokers that offers a genuine self-serve download rather than an email request. If you need a CMR in a hurry, this is one of the easier ones.
The steps
- 1Log in to ICICI Direct.
- 2Go to Portfolio → Reports.
- 3Click Client Master Report.
- 4Click Download CMR Copy.
You get a digitally-signed PDF, delivered instantly or the same day.

CML or CMR? Both, depending on the screen
ICICI Direct users search for this under both names — "client master list ICICI Direct", "CML copy from ICICI Direct", "how to get CMR from ICICI Direct" — because ICICI Direct's own interface has used both labels over time.
They are the same document. Do not go looking for a second file. CML vs CMR has the full explanation of why the industry never settled on one term.
The password on the PDF
Almost every CMR arrives as a password-protected PDF. ICICI Direct uses PAN in capitals alone — ABCDE1234F.
Two things trip people up:
- PAN must be in capitals.
ABCDE1234F, notabcde1234f. Most PDF readers do not tell you the case was wrong — they just reject the password. - Do not remove the password yourself. You do not need to. Upload the protected file and type the password into the field below the file picker; Polemarch decrypts it server-side. Re-saving the PDF through a third-party "unlock" site strips the broker's digital signature, which is exactly the thing verification checks for.
The NSDL format looks different — that is fine
An ICICI Direct CMR is an NSDL-format document. Compared with a CDSL client master from Zerodha or Groww, it is denser and more tabular, and the demat account number is written as IN followed by 14 characters rather than as a 16-digit number.
This sometimes worries people who have seen a friend's CDSL CMR and think theirs looks wrong. It is not. Both depositories are equally valid and both formats are accepted anywhere a CMR is requested.
If the download fails
- 1Disable pop-up blocking for the ICICI Direct domain — the report opens in a new window and blockers silently kill it.
- 2Try the desktop web platform rather than mobile; the Reports section is more reliable there.
- 3Very new demat accounts may not have a client master record yet. Wait a couple of working days and retry.
- 4Failing that, ICICI Direct's customer care can email the file to your registered address.
Uploading the CMR to Polemarch
Once you have the PDF:
- 1Open Dashboard → Demat Accounts → Add.
- 2Pick your broker from the dropdown — broker-specific instructions appear inline.
- 3Upload the CMR PDF. If it is password-protected, type the password in the field below the file picker. We strip it server-side and store the unencrypted copy (max 2 MB; larger files are auto-compressed).
Our verification partner matches the PAN and holder name automatically. If everything matches, the demat is marked verified instantly. If not, it goes to manual review and we email you within one business day.
Shares you buy are delivered into your own demat account at CDSL or NSDL, in your name — Polemarch never holds them. Settlement is T+2 working days.
